Digital Media

Digital Media

Digital Media, specifically within education refers to the idea of using interactive and multiple types of media. This means that a classroom will incorporate different software, devices and platforms all to be used as tool for learning. From this, students are able to discover multiple ways of learning in an environment built around supporting the improvement of children's education as we move further into the digital age.

This example of Digital Media can be used on either an iPad or Laptop, however it will work best with a VR set to make this a more immersive experience for the students. It is easy to use and even easier to access for the students and teacher.

Safety, Legal and Ethical Aspects

This particular activity is very safe for the students and can be relied on as a factual source as it is from the BBC. The only other safety aspect would be physical safety if the students were wearing the VR sets the teacher would need to ensure that all students were sitting down in an area where they can spread out to make sure no one accidently falls or knocks into each other. Considering this is quite an easy task the only ethical aspect would be for educator to make sure no students are making any inappropriate or insensitive remarks about such a historically significant event.

SAMR Related

If this classroom had the right access to plenty of different forums of digital media I would argue that this is quite a low-level activity. I would describe it as a substitution from just watching a video normally and learning about the "Berlin Blitz" that happened in 1943. It could then be discussed that the class use a greenscreen and give their perspective from someone in Berlin as if they were in the town being bombed after doing further research into what happened which would cater for high level thinking. However, if this a classroom that had little to no digital media styles, I would argue that this task is modified to what they are normally used to. For them a low-level activity may just be watching a video on the topic and taking notes, then access the 360˚ view activity.

  1. Nice Bridgette! Great to see you delving into more digital media tools and exploring how they can be implemented in the classroom. I appreciate how you have explored that this activity could be represented on different levels of the SAMR model however I would have liked you to expand on how this would relate to your history students and provide more details on the workings of the activity. Very easy to read keen to see you continue to develop your ICT skills!

  2. Awesome stuff Bridgette,
The VR experience was awesome and really gives a different perspective on the 'Berlin Blitz'. I like the way you have provided evidence on the legal, ethical and safety aspects on this experience however, I feel it is lacking information in some areas such as providing a higher level example of the SAMR model. However, I do agree with your statement that to a small school that had little to no digital media this would be a huge step up and could be placed in the higher order of the model. Awesome job can't wait for the next one!

  3. Hey Bridgette,
    Great post again!
I am still loving your use of hyperlinks throughout your blog to support learning. I have since added this to my blog!
I had a go at the activity myself, I have never used this before, it was a great experience. I think it would be very useful in many subjects. It gives a great insight into such a historical even!

Looking forward to your last post
